Eisenstein believed that film montage could create ideas or have an impact beyond the individual images. For instance, Russian filmmaker Lev Kuleshov developed early theories on the effect of editing and the juxtaposition of images in sequence. As a lifelong film geek and a current programmer for the Seattle International Film Festival, I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly (generally, as well as the Sergio Leone classic). Through-out the films that Kuleshov was creating they contained propaganda a form of information that is biased to support a specific view (in this issue it was a government, political view).
